Energy: The Human/Environment Connection At Potomac Overlook Regional Park

 Energy: The Human/Environment Connection project at Potomac Overlook Regional Park will expand upon the park’s existing successes in energy leadership and education and become a national model for educating the public on energy conservation in a recreational setting. Engaging, hands-on displays and activities along with real, renewable energy and energy conservation measures will encourage visitors of all ages to become part of energy solutions.

Phases:

1) Comfort/Welcome Station and NatureCenter:

The nature center will include the development of new exhibits tying together themes of energy and conservation, as well as an introductory exhibit that provides an overview and connects existing nature center themes.

2) Interactive exhibits and kiosks throughout the park displaying:

·Energy and life exhibit will detail how energy travels through the living system. Human life is made possible by the same energy flows that power all other life.

·The Solar energy exhibit will be located at the center stage of the park.

·Energy efficiency and conservation exhibits will be displayed at the nature center.

·Energy and transportation will be displayed by the presence of a “cutting edge” vehicle (hybrid or plug-in car) and a charging station for the solar car.

·Energy and resource use.

·Energy and society will be interpreted at the circle garden.

·Energy and agriculture will be interpreted by a vegetable garden. 

3) Develop Endowment position for ongoing educational staff member.

The Energerium, an interdisciplinary energy and nature education center is NOW OPEN at Potomac Overlook Regional Park!
